OSPAR is the mechanism by which fifteen governments of the western coasts and catchments of Europe, together with the European Union, cooperate to protect the marine environment of the North-East Atlantic. It started in 1972 with the Oslo Convention against dumping. It was broadened to cover land-based sources and the offshore industry by the Paris Convention of 1974. These two conventions were unified, up-dated and extended by the 1992 OSPAR Convention. ... OSPAR est le mécanisme par lequel quinze gouvernements des côtes et îles occidentales d’Europe, avec l'Union européenne, coopèrent pour protéger l’environnement marin de l’Atlantique du Nord-Est. Cette coopération a débuté en 1972 avec la Convention d’Oslo sur les immersions. Son champ a été étendu aux pollutions d’origine tellurique et à l’industrie pétrolière par la Convention de Paris en 1974. Enfin, ces deux conventions ont été unifiées, mises à jour et étendues par la Convention OSPAR en 1992.
